TorontoCAN - Our Campaign

The TorontoCAN campaign, as you can see from our principles, takes a multi-faceted, multi-year approach. We would like the opportunity to meet with your Board of Directors, local BIA, union etc. to further discuss our campaign or to conduct a workshop on an area of interest. Please contact us to set up a meeting. torontocan@sympatico.ca

2003 has been, and continues to be a busy and exciting year for TorontoCAN. We released "Toronto's Quiet Crisis" a research report detailing the needs of the social and community infrastructure in late December and built upon the issues addressed within in throughout the
2003 municipal budget campaign.

In April we held the first Cross-Sectoral meeting to help move us forward in implementing our workplan. Subsequent meetings were held on June 3rd and July 15th, with another scheduled for Sept. 4th. These meetings allow for a wide range of organizations to connect and share their knowledge and resources.

In June 2003 we held community Summits in Rexdale and York. In July, Summits were held for the Chinese and South Asian Communities with support from the Alternative Planning Group.  Future Summits are planned for Scarborough on Sept 10th and Etobicoke-Lakeshore on Sept. 23rd.

The 2nd Annual People's Summit took place on October 3rd and 4th.

Our lobbying work with the federal and provincial governments is ongoing. We need them to increase their spending on municipalities if we are to see Cities' strengthen.
